Hervey Bay has gained international recognition as one of the
best locations to view a great variety of marine life especially
the majestic humpback whales as they make their yearly migration
south, through the region's calm waters, from August to
November.
From Hervey Bay,
Fraser Island tours depart daily or self-drive

Hervey Bay is also a major access point for
Lady Elliot Island, first of the Islands of The Great
Barrier Reef, with flights running several times a day.
Fraser Island, one of the most sought after holiday destination

Stretching over 120km and covering an area of 165,280ha, Fraser

The Creation of the island sand mass, its dynamic nature, and
the ageing process of the dunes are superb examples of
continuing geological and biological processes. The universal
importance of these outstanding features was recognised through
the island's World Heritage Listing.
Being a World Heritage listed site, Fraser Island joins the
ranks of the Great Barrier Reef, Uluru and Kakadu National Parks
as being of universal significance as the largest coastal dune
system and sand island in the world and for its special
environments. As a precious part of Queensland's natural and
cultural heritage, it is protected for all to appreciate, enjoy
and respect.
